Projekt Bundestag 2016-2019

I was invited to document and comment on the private, often inaccessible areas of the German Parliament buildings and courtyards where decision making and governing takes place. The exhibition of 80 photos that is pending has a theme of transparency in governance in the German Parliament.

During the creation of "Projekt Bundestag" as an intended installation work in the Parliament galleries, the political landscape changed drastically in both the United States and Germany. The exhibition was delayed due to construction issues, and in the Interim the hard right political wing entered the German Parliament with voting rights. The AfD now wields growing power as mainstream parties take third, fourth, and fifth places.

This turning of events has resulted in my current series in progress, "BundestagZERRISSEN" (Parliament Torn) in which mirror images of the original photographs have been fragmented, restructured and re-photographed revealing the violence of the tearing process and the shocking vulnerability of democratic Ideals. "BundestagZERRISSEN" will be installed in tandem with the original photos in "Projekt Bundestag".
